Classification Codes

• This International Standard uses environmental classifications to specify the type (in the formal sense) of environmental objects.

• Two objects with the same general description (that is, having sufficiently similar attributes and behavior) are said to belong to the same class.

• Each class is defined and is designated by a unique classification label and a unique EDCS Classification Code.

• Classifications are defined in tables with codes grouped using the General organizational schema defined in Clause 8.
