Notes:
What will the standard language be? The DDDS, the language of the DoD enterprise data model. It is the language DoD is to speak. This is the result of DoD-wide logical data modeling to effect data standardization (8320 series).
Producers are migrating to these standards now. DoD-wide use of the data model provides requirements-to-resources traceability. We are leveraging off of that requirement.
The Ocean Taxonomy Database interfaces with two views. The JMCDM—under the purview of the Navy Functional Data Administrator, Mr. Tom Nabors—is the meteorological and oceanographic (METOC) portion of the DoD data model. It covers oceans, air, and space. The USIGS is maintained by NIMA (Dr. Jack Teller) and describes their terrain products. Together, these models form the METOC and MC&G foundation of the DDDS.
