The Master Environmental Library (MEL) is a “one-stop shop” for environmental data. Currently, it can be searched using a set of keywords supplied by the MEL developers. The idea of the Ocean Taxonomy Database is to expand the range of available keywords. The database behind the tool can be incorporated into the MEL interface (or the interface of a similar data-search product).
The Taxonomy Tool was created for the Office of the Ocean Executive Agent and the Defense Modeling and Simulation Office. Database design, original population, and maintenance by Acton Burnell, Inc.
