Registration
- For certain elements, this International Standard defines value ranges of certain entities as being reserved for registration.
- The meanings (e.g. names, labels and descriptions) of these values will be defined using the established procedures of the ISO International Registration Authority for Graphical Items.
- Neither other International Standards that normatively reference this International Standard nor implementations of those standards or of this International Standard shall use any code in the value ranges reserved for registration by this International Standard with any meaning other than the one defined in the International Register of Graphical Items.
- Registration shall be according to the procedures in ISO/IEC 9973, Procedures for registration of graphical items.
– See: http://jitc.fhu.disa.mil/nitf/graph_reg/graph_reg.htm
- The following additional rules apply to registration:
a. Names and labels for new registered items shall be different from any that already exist by either registration or definition in the standard
b. Codes shall not be "redefined" by registration, but a new "version" with a different name and label may be defined.
The rules for registration for the different types of codes is still in development.
