Attribute Codes (EAC)

• EDCS Version 2.7

  • Character encoded (four characters)
    • 2-3 alpha, 1-2 numeric
  • Shallow organization (e.g., grouped by “type” – wind)
    • Lexicographic ordering
  • Coding style consistent with FACC; name-based
    • Codes generally based on mnemonic abbreviations, e.g.:
    • BFC_ Building Function Category
      • “Type or purpose of the building.”
    • RDD_ Radiation, Direct Downwelling
      • “The irradiance from the sky onto the object.”

• EDCS Version 3.0

  • Numeric encoded (positive, non-zero)
  • No implied organization
  • Coding style is label-based (same definition), e.g.:
    • 165 BUILDING_FUNCTION_CATEGORY
    • 828 RADIATION_DIRECT_DOWNWELLING
